The Break Up

1/60 F 4 ISO 200

YOLO!

Right, because of all the aggro im having with film, and it is slowing me down, I have decided to go digital. However I love how black and white prints look, so im thinking Photoshop to make them look like a black and white prints. Pretty big thing to decide with 3 weeks left, but hey, its me.

FML!

My favourite film camera broke yesterday and not even the wizard that is Bob could fix it. My good lens only fits Nikon film camera's, so Bobs minolta's are not much help. My project is basically all film, so to evaluate, IM FUCKED!

Shoot with Tom

First thing, this is not meant to be a fashion shoot. Tom is dressed so smartly because its part of the story that goes with this picture. Because many of my images background story's are quite dark, I wanted to include some lighter personnel experiences. This is a digital image but the majority of the shoot was done on black and white film with a 52mm lens so they should turn out good.

Scouting some Locations

Thought it would be a good idea to go to some of the locations I want to shoot with models, to look for potential problems, good vantage points, props etc.

Diane Arbus

Im going to be honest, I cannot remember all of the exhibitions we have visited over the years, but the Diane Arbus exhibition was amazing. After seeing her work I fell in love Black and White film. Her portraits are so atmospheric and unusual, and always have amazing composition. I'd love to turn out some pictures inspired by her.

Also these images I have chosen relates back to the concept of my project. Why are these people at these places, sometimes dressed in costume?

Epic Black and White Photo from Rocky

Just saw this images when I was watching Rocky and loved the stlye of it. Real emotional and moody. Its pretty cool to stumble across inspiration from your favourite film. Currently trying to find the name of the photographer.

Richard Billingham - Landscapes

Richard Billingham is one of my favourite photographers. He has an amazing collection of landscapes that are so amazing and inspiring. If my future landscapes turn out half as good as these ill be sorted.

Bangley's lesson on how to use a Canon 7D

These are the Roth boys, a group of rappers from America. They take alot of videos and pictures to document the good times in there life. Its sometimes good to see someone doing stuff for fun, taking images and video's for memories. These guys are not your conventional photographers and film-makers as you can see from Bangley explaining the best way to use the 7D.

'On This Site' by Joel Sternfeld

One of the best photography books I have read

Joel Sternfeld

Joel was the first person I thought off when I came up with the concept for my FMP. His stunning landscapes in the collection of work 'On This Site' are visually stunning, but put with a story takes it to another level for me personelly. Joel shot in places around America and I think it would be so interesting to see a similar concept, shot in a familiar surrounding to myself, it would make it so much more real.

"For Sternfeld, an event marks a place indelibly. His plain, haunting photos-always devoid of people-evoke the bad things that took place in ways people simply cannot. In a world of object fetishism, where things often seem to mean as much as the people who use them, this is the ultimate extension: the place itself as tangible object, as the only living physical reminder of moments in time when horrible things happened" - From the publisher.

The Concept

Pictures mean many things to different people, a picture can be seen entirely different from one person to another. A normal looking scene can become an amazing mental picture when a story is put behind it.
